Games like Kiomet you can play in your browser
This page is written by the team behind Battle of Castles, one of the six games below. We say it here rather than at the bottom. The other games are described from their own pages, read on 4 and 5 November 2026, including the places where they do better than ours.
Kiomet is a free multiplayer real-time strategy game for the browser. You start with a King and a few soldiers on a map of towers and roads, send units along the roads to capture more towers, upgrade them, make alliances and keep your King safe. If you want that feeling in another game, here is the short answer:
- The same map of places and roads, as a match with a start and an end: Battle of Castles.
- Nations on a world map, with alliances to make and break: TERRON.
- Capture the enemy leader, on a grid hidden by fog of war: generals.io.
- Open land and big shared maps: Territorial.io.
- Alliances and a hundred players on real-world maps: OpenFront.io.
- Small matches with an economy to run, up to five players: Conquesta.io.
Play Battle of Castles in your browser: free, no account, nothing to download.
How these games compare
All six are about holding ground against other players in real time. What changes is the shape of the map, and whether you drop into a running world or play a match that ends.

1. Battle of Castles: the same map, as a duel
Battle of Castles is a real-time strategy game played in the browser at app.battleofcastles.com, and on Android through Google Play. If you know Kiomet, the board will look familiar: places linked by roads, and troops that march along them. You start with one castle. Point at a road and your castle sends half its garrison down it, every second, until you call the order off. Neutral castles are there to be taken, and each castle you hold produces troops and experience.
The difference is the shape of the game. Kiomet is a live world you drop into; Battle of Castles is a match, one against one or two against two, that ends. A 1v1 lasts nine minutes, a 2v2 twelve, and you never wait for a match. You win by taking every enemy castle, or by holding the most castles when time runs out.
The other difference is where the fight happens. You do not upgrade your towns into mines and factories: you defend the road. A tower cuts down the troops that march past, a wall blocks the road and stops arrows, a catapult pounds the castle across the way. Experience brings levels, each level gives you a point to spend on a power, up to the super attack, and mana buys defences or one decisive blow.
To play with a friend, create a team and share its code: you can challenge each other one on one or team up for a 2v2. Our guide to playing with a friend walks through it.
Where Kiomet does better: a world that is always running, alliances with the players around you, supply lines, a long list of towers to upgrade, and an offline single-player mode. Battle of Castles has none of those.
2. TERRON: nations and alliances
TERRON presents itself as a free multiplayer browser strategy game: "capture territory, expand your nation, forge and break alliances, unleash ultimates and eliminate rivals across the world map". Its lobby offers free-for-all and team rooms, it has clans and a rating, and it also comes as an app for Android and iPhone.
Pick it if the alliances are what you liked most in Kiomet, and you want a whole world map to fight over.
3. generals.io: protect your leader
generals.io, by MUGA Gaming, keeps the idea you know from Kiomet's King: "protect your general, capture enemy generals". You take land on a grid hidden by fog of war, and it calls itself "fast-paced". It has team games, custom maps, leaderboards, and a ranked 1v1 ladder that runs in seasons with championships. We wrote a whole page of games like generals.io.
Pick it if you like the tension of keeping your King hidden, and want a ladder to climb.
4. Territorial.io: no roads, just land
Territorial.io, by Territorial Endeavours, drops the towers: you spread across a map pixel by pixel and balance growth against attack. Its Google Play page promises rounds that "can finish in less than 5 minutes", historical and generated maps, big multiplayer battles and one-vs-one duels. It runs in the browser and on Android, where it shows ads.
Pick it if you want shorter rounds on a big map and do not need roads. See also our page of games like Territorial.io.
5. OpenFront.io: the big war
OpenFront.io starts you from one spot on a real-world map, and you spread your nation across it, make or break alliances and fight for the whole map. Its lobby shows free-for-all rooms of up to 100 players, team games and a ranked mode. It is in alpha, and it is also sold on Steam.
Pick it if you want Kiomet's alliances at a much larger scale. See also our page of games like OpenFront.io.
6. Conquesta.io: the small castle war
Conquesta.io is a free browser game with no account: "capture resource tiles to grow your economy, spawn units to defend and attack, and be the last castle standing". A match has up to five players, and Quick Join puts you in a live game in seconds.
Pick it if you want an economy to run and several rivals around one small map.
What Battle of Castles does not do
- No alliances or diplomacy. Your only ally is your teammate in 2v2.
- No persistent world. Every match starts from one castle and ends.
- No tower upgrade tree. Your castles do not turn into mines or factories.
- No big free-for-all. Matches are 1v1 or 2v2.
- No offline play. Every match runs on our servers, so you need a connection.
- No App Store app. On Android there is the Google Play app; on a computer or an iPhone, the browser.
- Landscape only on phones.
- No in-game chat. With a friend, use your usual call or messaging app.
